It's About Damn Time! (2nd edition)

Get ready to have a geek fit, true believers. I read this article this morning:

Original 'Star Wars' Movies Coming to DVD -- At Last

Responding to legions of fans, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment have agreed to release the original versions of the first three Star Wars movies, unmodified by digital enhancements, on Sept. 12. Each of the films, Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983) will be released separately and will be accompanied by a second disc offering the digitally reedited version produced in 2004. They will be withdrawn from circulation on Dec. 31. A promo for the new releases states: "See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV; see the pioneering, if dated, motion-control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and, yes, see Hans Solo shoot first."

Can I get a "Hell Yeah!?!"

Comments:
Fogle already reemed me a new ass, but I like the enhanced graphics (except the Jabba scene)

Hey, there are certain things that I like about the Special Editions also, particularly in Empire. That was the most subtle, and hence, the least offensive. I liked the enhanced space battle at the end of ANH.

In the other two, the problems far outweigh the pros, however, especially in Mos Eisley. The flyby shots when Luke and company enter the city kind of blow; Threepio doesn't look like himself at all. Jabba could have been great, but it wasn't.

Also, what the fuck is the deal with Greedo? I know I've said it a thousand times, but how the fuck do you miss someone at point blank range!?! They tried to tidy it up by making the two shots closer together, but still, how do you miss?

I think Lucas tried to make Han more family friendly, which is bullshit since half the reason he was appealing was because he was this bad-ass criminal who ended up on the right side of the fight. He's a drug smuggler for fuck's sake.

That's what the whole end scene was about, Han's reformation. Throughout the whole movie, he was in it for himself and the money. Look out for number one, that was Han. He was a hardened criminal.

You make Greedo shoot first, it minimizes his reformation. It gives him a sense of honor (or at the very least, a conscience) that wasn't established prior. So, we know right off the bat that deep down, he's an okay guy.

The journey he makes is a shorter trip, in other words. When he tells Luke "May the Force Be with you," it's kind of meaningless.
